My name is Sarah Hwang and I am a holistic writer. My education (Major in English, Professional and Public Writing) equipped me to produce technical, professional, and public works of writing, and my lifelong rigorous reading habits shaped my skills at writing creatively.
Outside of writing, I am skilled in a number of diverse subjects. My Minor in Music, as well as my general obsession with music, composition, and theory, shaped my ability to read, interpret, compose, and arrange music. I particularly love working with musicians, and have collaborated with numerous talented artists. My primary instrument is piano, though I love dabbling in guitar and sound engineering.
In a particularly bold move, I switched my major from Professional and Pubic writing to Nursing my junior year of college. After three semesters of pre-nursing courses, I spent nearly two semesters in the Auburn School of Nursing, which is known as one of the most rigorous paths of study at Auburn University. I realized that, as the stress of the program built, I turned to writing and other creative outlets more than ever before, which was telling.
I also realized I didn’t have to be a nurse. I love science, I love medicine, and I love taking care of people, but I love words more. Nursing drains me, and writing fills me up. It was an easy decision to study English after this realization.
My training in diversity, conflict resolution, and crisis management through my two years as a Resident Assistant also exemplify my love for looking after and leading people. I consider my greatest skill to be empathy: to see people objectively, and to make every effort to see through the eyes of others despite race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, gender identity, age, religious affiliation, etc. I take pride in this and know my skills in this area will be beneficial wherever I am.
This also leads into my passion for human rights, specifically through the organization In It to End It, which aims to raise awareness for the 27 million enslaved people in the world.
I also have invested interest in copyright law and intellectual property. I believe in artists and creators of information, and I have experience making a fool of myself in the eyes of others in order to protect the hard work of others.
